Taken from the archive, here's a look back at the history of The LUMSDEN Machine Co. Ltd.

TYPE 'LE' Heavy Duty Surface Grinders

These massive and poweful machines, with rotating tables and vertical wheel spindles, offer the fastest possible means of producing really accurate and flat surfaces on components ranging from a few ounces to several hundredweights.

Work can usually be completed at one setting, even if it involves large stock removal.  The grinding segments are unaffected by scale whether the wheel cuts below the surface skin or not.  As the diameter of the wheel is slightly more than half the diameter of the table, the working surface is covered in one revolution.

TYPE 'ML' Heavy Duty Surface Grinders

with Rotary Tables

The LUMSDEN 91 'ML' heavy duty surface grinder represents the last word in design, power and productive capacity.  It incorporates  all the exclusive advantages of other LUMSDEN machines, plus many new features, which combine to make it a really astonishing metale remover.

No matter if your production requirements call for large stock removal, or for a light skim over scale-covered castings or forgings, the 91 'ML' will take the job in its stride, producing at one setting a finish and flatness to meet the most exacting demands.

TYPE 'MLT' High Production Surface Grinders

The LUMSDEN 91-MLT has been especially designed to meet the definite need for a machine capable of carrying out accurate "step" grinding operations on a production basis.

On this machine the rotary , retractable table is always under positive control, adjustable stops and limit switches enabling the most precise operations to be carried out at fast rates.

The bed is a rigid box type casting, provided at one end with ways for the sliding saddle, and at the other with suitable supporting points for the column.

TYPE 'RT' Surface Grinders

with Retractable Table

History 4.jpg

The LUMSDEN 90 'RT' surface grinder is a development of our traversing rotary  table machines.  It has particular advantages for such work as the grinding of components where there are two or more faces at different levels.

It also allows the operator to run the table from under the grinding wheel to facilitate the loading and unloading of components.

The 14" diameter grinding wheel covers the working surface of the 25" diameter retractable table in one revolution.
